Objectives To understand the sanitary status of public places in Zhongshan, and develop recommendations for improving the sanitation in public places.
Methods The sanitary status of indoor air and public articles were tested according to the standard examination methods and rules of health monitoring for public places, and the results in 2008-2012 were analyzed.
Results The qualified rate of 339 464 environment monitoring items in public places was 95.14% in Zhongshan city in 2008-2012; in which the lowest was in 2008 (93.45%).The qualified rate in barbershop and beauty parlor was the best (99.48%). The qualified rate in the waiting room of railway and bus stations was the worst (84.82%), the qualified rate of temperature, relative humidity, and noise were 89.13%, 86.44% and 74.36%, respectively.The qualified rate of noise in marketplaces and waiting room of hospitals were 44.90% and 46.15%, respectively.The qualified rate of aerobic bacteria counts and coliform bacteria on public articles were 97.54% and 99.64%, respectively.
Conclusions The sanitary quality of public places in Zhongshan city was good, and the surveillance for marketplace, waiting room and reception room need to be strengthened. The items affecting the sanitary quality of public places in Zhongshan city were noise, temperature and relative humidity.
