The Status Analysis and its Corresponding Strategies on Carbon Monoxide Pollution in the Underground Parking Garages

    • Objectives To investigate the pollution status of carbon monoxide(CO) in large-scale underground parking garages and its influencing factors to provide the basis for hygiene monitoring and government decision-making.
Methods Two large-scale parking garages under the mall were sampled with a mall open-air parking lot as control in the study. A sequence of positions and time periods was selected to monitor the concentration of carbon monoxide in the air. Simultaneously, the microclimate indexes such as temperature, humidity, wind speed were detected.
Results The CO concentrations in the underground garages were higher than those at the ground parking lot during the workdays even the weekends. There was consistently significant differences between the underground and the open-air parking place statistically (P < 0.05). The CO concentrations in the underground garage exit ramps and toll house were significantly higher than the parking space (P < 0.05).
Conclusions CO pollution in underground garages is serious. The corresponding health standards need stipulating promptly, and monitoring and management should be strengthen.
