    The Cognition of Residents in Nanjing City on Particulate Matters Pollution in Indoor Air

    • Objectives To understand the awareness of residents in Nanjing on pollution of particulate matters in indoor air.
      Methods Eighty five families in a district of Nanjing city were registered voluntarily for this survey. One adult member of each family was selected for questionnaire survey on the cognition of particulate matter pollution in indoor air.
      Results Eighty five copies of valid questionnaire were received; 62% of responders considered that the indoor air pollution was more important than outdoor air pollution, 69% of responders considered the existence of particulate matters (PM10 and PM2.5) pollution in indoor air, and 70% of responders considered that indoor air particulate matters were a comprehensive pollution from physical, chemical, and pathogenic origins. On the type of indoor air pollution, more attention have been paid to formaldehyde pollution, which accounted for 89%.
      Conclusions The awareness of indoor air pollution in Nanjing residents was better than ever, the attention on indoor air particle pollution was increasing, but the concern on the air pollution of formaldehyde was still the highest.
