Evanescent Wave Fiber Optic Biosensor for Salmonella Detection

    • Objectives To establish a fiber optic biosensor method for rapid, convenient and accurate detection of Salmonella.
Methods Applying a double-antibody sandwich immunoassay mode and optimizing the concentration of capturing and detecting antibody, the sensitivity and specificity were determined under the optimum conditions, and the sensitivity and specificity of the method was validated through detecting the environmental water samples.
Results The detection limit of fiber optic biosensor method for Salmonella was 5.5×103cfu/mL, and the response time was about 40 min. The detection results for Escherichia Coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Shigellaflexneri and Shigelladysenteriae were all negative and showed a favourable specificity.
Conclusions The advantages of fiber optic biosensor method were rapid, sensitive and specific in the detection of Salmonella. It can be used as a convenient method for Salmonella detection.
