Investigation on the Sanitary Status of Farmland in Jiangxi Province in 2011

    • Objectives To understand the health hazards and dynamic changes of farmland in Jiangxi province and to objectively evaluate the sanitation of farmland, in order to provide reference for developing policies and measures.
Methods The sanitation of farmland was monitored in 560 administrative villages. One soil sample was selected randomly from the farmland of each village, with a total of 560 soil samples. Saturated sodium nitrate floating method was used to detect ascarid eggs and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometry was used to detect lead and cadmium in soil samples.
Results The detection rate of ascarid egg was 60.36%, and 66.86% of eggs were live. The detection rates of ascarid egg in sandy, loam and clay soil were 62.5%, 61.99% and 39.53%, respectively. The content of cadmium in 10.18% of soil samples exceeded the national secondary standard, while the content of lead was normal in all samples. The pollution of cadmium was serious in Ruichang County and Nanfeng County.
Conclusions In Jiangxi province, live ascarid eggs were detected in 40.4% of farmland soil samples, and the levels of lead in all samples and cadmium in 89.82% of samples were in line with the national secondary standard, which indicated that the harmless treatment of excrement should be strengthened, and the intensity of heavy mental pollution control should be increased.
