Hygienic Evaluation on the Effectiveness of Controlling Occupational Hazards in a Storage Battery Factory

    • Objectives To evaluate the extent and effectiveness of controlling occupational hazards in a storage battery factory and to provide suggestions for the prevention and control of occupational diseases.
Methods The factory sites, equipment layout, management measures and other basic situations of the factory were surveyed, and the factors for occupational hazards in work posts were tested to determine whether the results of occupational hazard control were qualified or not.
Results The factory sites and equipment layout of the factory basically met the requirements. The qualified rates for carbon monoxide, coal dusts and WBGT index were 100%, and the qualified rates for noise and illumination were 95%. The qualified rates for sulfuric acid and lead dusts were 0. The qualified rate for lead smoke in the air was 14.3%. The concentrations of sulfuric acid and lead in the air were 0.35~0.60 times and 8.44~175.67 times over the standard limits, respectively.
Conclusions The manufacturer should take rectified and corrective measures seriously on the control of occupational hazards in sulfuric acid and lead work posts.
