Objectives To investigate the air quality in Zhengzhou subway stations and to provide the scientific basis and recommendations for administrators.
Methods The situation of biological contamination in five subway stations was investigated according to the relevant state laws, regulations, and health standards. The samples were selected randomly and detected by standard methods.
Results The qualification rate of total bacteria counts in all air samples selected from subway station halls, platforms and cars were 100%; the qualification rate of total fungi counts for platforms and station halls was 80% and for cars was 100%;hemolytic streptococcus and legionella bacteria have not been detected in all samples.
Conclusions The total bacteria and fungi counts in the air were unqualified in individual Zhengzhou subway station, which might have potential threat to the health of people. It is suggested to have an investigation and take a systemic air disinfection before the station put into operation to ensure passengers' health.
