Preliminary Investigation on Non-tuberculous Mycobacteria in Water Samples from Six Hotels in Fengtai District of Beijing

    • Objectives To survey the distribution of non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in water samples from six hotels in Fengtai district of Beijing.
Methods Tap water and shower water samples were collected. The bacteria collected by filtration were cultured on L-wenstein-Jensen medium. The non-tuberculous mycobacteria were identified by sequencing 16S rDNA.
Results The positive rates of non-tuberculous mycobacteria in shower water and tap water were 83.3% and 50.0%, respectively.
Conclusions Non-tuberculous mycobacteria were widely distributed in water samples from six hotels in Fengtai district of Beijing. Thus, water might be the potential source for the spread of NTM disease.
