Analysis of disinfection quality in three medical institutions of different levels in Anhui Province, China, 2019—2021

    • Objective  To investigate the current situation of disinfection quality in three medical institutions of different levels in Anhui Province, China.
Methods  From 2019 to 2021, three medical institutions of the city, county, and township levels in Anhui Province were selected for quarterly monitoring of disinfection quality. The indicators included cleaning quality of medical instruments, flexible endoscope, sterilizers, surgical hands of operating room personnel, hygiene hands of healthcare workers, air in operating room, surface of objective, and sampling result of medical water in key departments. The result were evaluated and analyzed according to national standards.
Results  From 2019 to 2021, a total of 2 033 samples of 8 types such as flexible endoscopes and sterilizers were tested in three medical institutions at the levels of city, county, and township. The overall qualified rate of disinfection quality monitoring was 82.98% (1687/2033), and the difference in qualified rates between the three years was statistically significant (χ2=15.83, P < 0.001). Among the indicators, the qualified rates of cleaning quality of medical devices and hygiene hand of healthcare workers were relatively low, which were 74.24% (490/660) and 65.31% (224/343), respectively. The qualified rates of disinfection quality monitoring also showed significant differences between different levels of medical institutions (χ2=74.47, P < 0.001). The qualified rates of secondary and tertiary medical institutions were 89.36% (655/733) and 85.45% (611/715), respectively, both higher than the qualified rate of primary medical institution.
Conclusion  The disinfection quality of medical institutions in Anhui Province has been improved over the years, but there are gaps in disinfection quality between medical institutions of different levels.
