Influence of national health city construction on pro-environmental behavior among residents in Zunyi, China

Objective  To investigate the influence of national health city construction on pro-environmental behavior among residents and its mechanism.

Methods  Based on the event system theory, a hypothetical model with city satisfaction and city identity was constructed as chain mediators between national health city construction and pro-environmental behavior, and a questionnaire survey was performed among 246 urban residents using the model. SPSS 25.0 was used for statistical analysis. The method of Baron and Kenny (1986) was used for stepwise regression, and model 6 in PROCESS plug-in of Hayes(2013) was used to test the chain mediation effect.

Results  Questionnaire survey results utilizing the hypothetical model showed that the intensity of National Health City Construction Events was significantly positively correlated with urban satisfaction, urban identity, and pro-environmental behavior(P < 0.01), and urban satisfaction and urban identity played a chain mediating role in the relationship between national health city construction and pro-environmental behavior.

Conclusion  National health city construction is helpful to improve the satisfaction and sense of identity of residents to the city, and turn it into conscious behavior of caring for the urban environment. It is necessary for the government to continue strengthening the construction of national health city, consolidate and further improve the achievements.
