Determination of Total Volatile Organic Compounds in Indoor Air by Solid Absorption-Thermal Desorption-GC-MS

    • Objective To establish a method for determination of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) in indoor air by solid adsorption-thermal desorption-gas chromatography mass spectrometry(GC-MS).
Methods Indoor air samples were collected by Tenax TA adsorption tube, and the samples were separated by gas chromatography after thermal desorption and detected by mass spectrometry.
Results The 22 characteristic target compounds had a good linear relationship in the range of (5 - 200)μg/m3, with the detection limit ranging (0.03 - 0.84)μg/m3, quantita tion limit ranging (0.13 - 3.36)μg/m3, recovery ranging is 68.2% - 115.5%, and relatively standard deviation (RSD) range were 3.8% - 25.8%.
Conclusion This method is suitable for the determination of TVOC in indoor air.
