    Epidemiological Characteristics of Mumps in Wuwei, Gansu Province, China from 2010 to 2019

    • Objective To analyze the epidemic characteristics of mumps in Wuwei, Gansu province, China from 2010 to 2019.
      Methods The data of mumps from 2010 to 2019 were collected through the Chinese Disease Prevention and Control Information System, and used descriptive epidemiological method for statistical analysis.
      Results From 2010 to 2019, a total of 3972 cases of mumps were reported in Wuwei, with a mean annual incidence of 21.74/105. The incidence showed a decreasing trend from 81.42/105 in 2013 to 4.78/105 in 2017, and had a slight rebound in 2018 and 2019. The epidemic peak occurred from March to April and from December to January of the next year. The mean annual incidence in Liangzhou district, Minqin county, Gulang county, and Tianzhu Tibetan autonomous prefecture were 18.14/105, 15.69/105, 22.14/105, and 49.01/105, respectively. The incidence was higher in males than in females. Most cases were students.
      Conclusion The incidence of mumps in Wuwei was higher in 2018 and 2019 than in 2017. The current immunization strategy should be adjusted in time, and active surveillance and control measures should be strengthened, especially in the seasons and areas of high incidence, to promptly control the epidemic and avoid the outbreak.
