Analysis on Sanitary Conditions of Swimming Places in Xicheng District of Beijing, 2016-2018

    • Objective To understand the sanitary conditions of swimming places in Xicheng District, Beijing in order to provide a basis to strengthen the supervision and ensure the sanitation and safety of public places.
Methods Sampling and monitoring of water samples in swimming places were carried out in accordance with the Examination method for public places (GB/T 18204-2013). Six water quality indicators in the swimming pools, including total bacterial count, coliform bacteria, turbidity, pH, carbamide, and free residual chlorine were determined by the method mentioned above(GB/T 18204-2013). The result were evaluated according to the Hygienic standard for swimming place (GB 9667-1996).
Results The overall qualified rate of the swimming places from 2016 to 2018 was 87.3%, and no statistical difference was observed in the pass rate of each indicator during these three years (total bacterial count P=0.072; pH P=0.116; carbamide P=0.235; free residual chlorine P=0.223). The main unqualified indicators of water samples in swimming pools were carbamide and free residual chlorine. A comparison of these two indicators among the three types of swimming pools showed that the qualified pass rates of carbamide in hotel swimming pools and free residual chlorine in school swimming pools were relatively high than the other indicators.
Conclusion From 2016 to 2018, the sanitary conditions of the swimming places were relatively stable, but health promotion and education for swimmers should be further strengthened. The swimming pool managers should pay close attention to the sanitary conditions of water quality and replace the pool water timely.
