Objectives To understand the health status and influencing factors of service workers in public places in Gansu province, and to provide evidence for health promotion of service workers in public places.
Methods A total of 841 service workers in waiting rooms, hotels, barbershops, beauty salons, bathing places and natatorium were selected by simple sampling method; and their health conditions were statistically described. Unconditioned logistic regression was used to analyze the influencing factors of health status of service workers.
Results The rate of self-reported health in the last month was 67.54% (568/841), the rate of self-reported unhealth was 32.46% (273/841), and the awareness rate of health knowledge was 68.72% (578/841). The result of multivariate logistic regression showed that the working time of 6 days and 7 days per week, the quality of tap water, and the disease-vectors (flies, mice, mosquitoes, etc.) were significantly associated with the health status of service workers in public places. The odds ratios and 95% confidence interval were 1.293 (1.017, 1.982), 1.546 (1.138, 2.101), 1.879 (1.196, 2.952), and 1.942 (1.241, 2.911), respectively.
Conclusions The awareness rate of health knowledge among service workers in public places is relatively low, so health education of service workers should be strengthened, and the length of working hours and working environment of staff should be considered to be optimized to reduce the health risk factors.
