Health Risk Assessment of BaP in Ambient PM2.5 in a District of Zibo

    • Objective To assess the pollution characterization and health risk of BaP in ambient PM2.5 in a district of Zibo.
Methods Ambient samplers were used to collect PM2.5 from September of 2016 to August of 2017. The concentrations of PM2.5 and BaP in PM2.5 were determined, and health risk of BaP in PM2.5 was assessed.
Results The total concentration of PM2.5 were(11.3-905) μg/m3 with annual average concentration of 131 μg/m3. The total concentration of BaP in PM2.5 were (0.03-27.0) ng/m3 with annual average concentration of 6.09 ng/m3. The lifetime carcinogenic risks of BaP in PM2.5 in for children of (0-5) and (6-17) years old and adults were 0.85×10-6, 0.98×10-6, and 3.50×10-6, respectively. In heating period, the concentrations of PM2.5 and BaP in PM2.5 and the lifetime carcinogenic risk of both adults and children were higher than those in non-heating period.
Conclusions The concentrations of PM2.5 and BaP in atmospheric PM2.5 exceeded the standards in a district of Zibo from September in 2016 to August in 2017. The lifetime cancer risks were all at acceptable levels with adults higher than children and heating period higher than that of non-heating period.
