Research Status of Hygienic Safety of Desalinated Seawater Treatment Agents in China

    • China is one of the countries with the most shortage of freshwater resources in the world, so it is of great practical significance to alleviate the shortage of freshwater resources through seawater desalination technology. Seawater desalination process requires various water treatment agents. It was seldom investigated about whether the chemical compositions of these water treatment agents and impurities produced have potential adverse effects on the health of population who drink desalinated water. Therefore, it is urgent to establish standards from the perspective of hygienic safety evaluation of desalinated seawater treatment agents. This paper not only drew lessons from the hygienic standards of desalinated seawater formulated by WHO, USA, Israel, and other countries and organizations, but also referred to the standard system of drinking water in China, for the consideration on relevant standards of hygienic safety evaluation of desalinated seawater treatment agents in China.
