Sanitory Evaluation on a Rural Drinking Water Safety Project

    • Objectives To prosent the sanitary evaluation process and result of a rural drinking water safety project to provide reference for similar works.
Methods Based on the Technical Scheme for Hygienic Evaluation on Rural Drinking Water Safety of Sichuan Province (2017), through consulting data, on-site observation, expert consultation and water quality inspection, a risk matrix method was applied to comprehensively evaluate the water supply project and put forward suggestions for improvement.
Results The guarantee rate for water supply engineering was greater than 95%. The source water was qualified, there were certain protective measures and there were a variety of contaminants in the surrounding 200 m of four wells. The construction for pumping station was inperfect. Production facilities and process could meet the needs for water production. An on-site laboratory for water quality examination was established. Finished water and tap water could meet the requirement of national standards.
Conclusions The project has certain samitary risks. It is suggested that designation of protection arec for water source as soon as possible so as to control the source of contamination; enhance the protection of water wells, standardizing the storage of disinfectants; strengthening water supply network inspection and reasonable increasing the number of water treatment personnel.
