Analysis and Thoughts on Biomonitoring of US National Biomonitoring Program

    • Objectives To understand the status and characteristics of biological monitoring and analysis of US NBP project and provide some suggestions for the biological monitoring work in China.
Methods Based on US Fourth National Report on Human Exposure to Environmental Chemicals and the program Laboratory Procedure Manual, the monitoring indicators, samples and experimental techniques of NBP project were investigated and analyzed.
Results Investigation showed that the NBP project exposed 296 chemicals or metabolites in the population biological samples by using different types of solid phase extraction technology and high resolution mass spectrometry, tandem mass spectrometry and the combination of different chromatographic technology, of which about 85% of the monitoring project to ultra-trace levels.
Conclusions Biological monitoring is the important foundation of environmental and health risk assessment and there are still some gaps in part of biological monitoring standard, specification, quality control in our country, the basic research work of biological monitoring remains to be further strengthened.
