Investigation on Ammonia and Carbon Monoxide in the Environment of a Coking Plant in Xinjiang

    • Objective To detect, analyze and evaluate the concentrations of ammonia and carbon monoxide in the environment of a coking plant in Xinjiang, and put forward preventive measures and suggestions.
Methods The analysis and evaluation were based on the national occupational health standards and relevant specifications.
Results The concentration of carbon monoxide in only one of 77 monitoring samples collected from the top of coking units was found exceeding the standard limit and the qualification rates were 98.7%, while in other monitoring points the qualification rates were 100%.
Conclusions Because of the advanced technology in this plant, the risk in administrative office building and temperature measuring zone caused by ammonia and carbon monoxide could be neglected; the environment in the workplace of coking units could meet the requirements of national standards, the concentrations of hazard factors affected by productive activity was low, but the concentrations of hazard factors could be affected by the ventilation rate in workshop, therefore, ensuring adequate ventilation rate in workplace was needed.
