Iodine Nutritional Status of Pregnant and Lactation Women in Ji'nan in 2015

    • Objective To evaluate the nutritional status of iodine in pregnant and lactation women after modulating the concentration of iodide level in table salt.
Methods Urine samples of pregnant and lactating women were collected by random from the urban area and one township of each county in the eastern, southern, western, northern and center suburb of Ji'nan City for urinary iodine test. The content of iodide level in table salt of each monitored family was also detected.
Results The coverage rate of iodized salt was 98.17% and 99.16% in pregnant and lactating women. The median value of urinary iodide in pregnant women was 177.3 μg/L, and that in lactation women was 193.5 μg/L.
Conclusions The coverage rate of iodized salt in Ji'nan City was high but varied in different regions. The nutritional status of iodine in pregnant and lactating women was appropriate generally. The iodine nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women in some regions was higher than the appropriate level but not excessive; iodine deficiency was observed in some other regions.
