    Shopping Malls' Hygienic Quality Investigation in Zhangjiagang 2012—2014

    • Objectives To find out the hygienic conditions of shopping malls in Zhangjiagang city, and to provide the basic for enhancement of hygienic monitoring in the public places.Methods The sampling program was in accordance to the Technical Rules of Health Monitoring for Public Places (GB/T 17220-1998), and the methods for the examination of monitoring parameters were on the basis of the Standard Examination Methods for Public Places (GB/T 18504.1-18204.30-2000), the Method for Determination of Inhalable Particulate Matter (PM10)in Air of Public Place-Light Scattering Method (WS/T 206-2001)and the Code for Indoor Environmental Pollution Control of Civil Building Engineering (GB 50325-2010); besides, the assessment of results was in the light of the Hygienic Standard for Shopping Centre and Book Store (GB 9670-1996).Results In 2012—2014, the qualified rates of air quality parameters of shopping malls in 44 public places were more than 92%, among which, the relative humidity, wind speed, intensity of illumination, concentrations of CO and CO2 as well as total bacterial count were 100%. With regard to the unqualified parameters, the lowest one was the noise which accounted for 45.7%, and followed by the formaldehyde (86.7%).Conclusions The relevant government departments should strengthen the supervision and administration for shopping malls and take appropriate measures to eliminate or control the noise sources. In the meantime, the authors recommend that the settlement of some green plants will be favorable to achieve the rapid decrease the concentration of formaldehyde in the air and increase the hygienic level of shopping malls.
