Mechanism Progress on Neurotoxicity Caused by Manganese

    • Manganese is a trace metal which plays an important role in maintaining normal cellular function and metabolism. However, the accumulation of excessive manganese may cause degenerative brain disorder; this kind of neurological disease was called manganism (manganese poisoning). The progress on the neurological mechanism of manganese induced oxidative stress, mitochondrial damage, the damage of dopamine neurons, and endoplasmic reticulum stress were summarized in this article.
