Residual Concentration of Fumigant Sulfuryl Fluoride in Containers Loaded with Imported Waste Materials

    • Objectives To investigate the relationship between the residual concentrations of sulfuryl fluoride after fumigating and the length of time for ventilation, the variety and packing state of goods, in order to get a reasonable length of time for ventilating.
Methods Testing the residual concentration after the container being opened at different temperature, different wind speed, loaded with different kinds of materials and at different position of the container.
Results Among the 3 waste materials being tested, the residual concentration of sulfuryl fluoride in the container loaded with plastics was the highest and more time was needed for sulfuryl fluoride gas scattering.
Conclusions No obvious correlation was observed between the residual concentration of sulfuryl fluoride in containers after ventilation and the temperature, wind speed and the specification of containers; the rate of sulfuryl fluoride gas scattering in containers loaded with plastic materials was slow; the tests in this study offered scientific basis for setting reasonable ventilation time and protecting the safety for workers.
