    • Objectives To develop a rapid method for assessing the quality of drinking water in order to ensure the safety of drinking water.
      Methods Referring to the experiences in WHO and USEPA and the practices in China to develop the method for rapid assessment of drinking water.
      Results The risk factors of drinking water were assessed quantitatively by hygienic investigation and screening water quality indices.
      Conclusions Using the rapid assessment, the quality and safety of drinking water could be ensured and could meet the requirement of water supply in a short period of time.
