Abstract:
Objectives To study the effects of interleukin-12 (IL-12) on some serum indexes of mice in-jured by ionizing radiation; and to investigate its role and mechanism of reducing the injury from radiation.
Methods Thirty two mice were divided into four groups, a normal control group (A), a radiation injured control group (B), a radiation injured and injected with empty vector group (C) and a radiation injured and injected with IL-12 group (D). The contents of interferon-γ(IFN-γ) and IL-4 were detected by ELISA. The biochemical indexes on liver and kidney function and blood sugar were tested by automatic biochemistry analyzer.
Results The content of IFN-γ was higher and the activities of AST and ALT were lower in group D than group B and group C (P < 0.05). The differences of IL-4, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (Scr) or blood sugar contents a-mong these groups were not significant (P>0.05).
Conclusion IL -12 might be useful in up-regulating the level of serum IFN-γ of the mice injured by ionizing radiation, and down-regulating the activities of serum trans-aminase.
