Proficiency of Testing Cadmium, Zinc, Nickel and Selenium in Water by Using an Inter-laboratory Comparison Method

      Abstract:
Objectives  To evaluate the proficiency of detecting the content of cadmium, zinc, nickel and selenium in drinking water by using an inter-laboratory comparison method for provincial Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDCs) in China.
Methods  Quality control samples were adopted to assess the proficiency of laboratories.Thirty-two laboratories were divided into 2 groups; the concentration of these metal samples were assigned to 2 levels. Proficiency testing was evaluated by robust statistical methods.
Results  Thirty-one laboratories of provincial CDCs, including municipal CDCs under the central government and CDCs in autonomous regions, participated in this inter-laboratory comparison. The Results of 20 laboratories were satisfactory for all parameters, accounting for 64.5%. The Results of 6 laboratories were suspicious, accounting for 19.4%;and the results of 5 laboratories were outliers, accounting for 16.1%.
Conclusions  Majority of laboratories participated in this inter-laboratory comparison had the capability of testing the concentration of cadmium, zinc, nickel and selenium in drinking water.
