Research advances in the application of animal models for SARS-CoV-2 infection

Abstract: The epidemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused a great impact on human health and public safety, and the continuous variation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has brought new challenges to the research on COVID-19 prevention and treatment. Animal models provide an important research basis for comprehensive understanding the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2, the development of vaccines, and the evaluation of treatment outcome. There are some differences in the construction and application of various animal models for SARS-CoV-2 infection, and the application of different animal models has its own characteristics. This article reviews the current status of the construction and application of animal models for SARS-CoV-2 infection by querying relevant literature, so as to provide a reference for the establishment and selection of models in COVID-19 studies.
