Abstract:
Objectives To compare a murine local lymph node assay (LLNA):DA method and the classical dermal irritation method to evaluate the dermal irritation of hair dyes, and evaluate their ability of detecting the irritation of hair dyes.
Methods Fifteen kinds of hair colorants were randomly selected. The sensitization of 15 kinds of hair dyes were examined according to OECD442 (A) and OECD442 (B) standard method.
Results Samples No.3, 4, 5, 6, 11, 13 and 15 showed a positive irritation tested by LLNA:DA method. Samples No.3, 4 and 5 showed a light positive irritation and samples No.11 and 13 showed a moderate positive irritation tested by dermal irritation test.
Conclusions The sensitivity of LLNA:DA method for evaluating the dermal irritation of hair dyes was equal to that of classical dermal irritation test.
