Abstract:
Objectives To observe the impact of cellphone frequency radiation on the histological and morphological changes of testis and the expression of Nrf2 protein in the testis of rats.
Methods Thirty adult male SD rats were randomly divided into three groups:a control group and two radiated groups, which were exposed to a radiation of 900MHz imitated by cellphone in 4 hours a day for 12 days and 30 days respectively. The morphology of testis was examined by routine HE staining, and the expression of Nrf2 protein was detected by immunohistochemical method.
Results Compared with the control group, there were no obviously morphological change in testis in the 12d-radiated group. The morphological changes in the 30d-radiated group were porosity in seminiferous tubule, loose in the structure of germ cell, and a reduction of spermatozoa. The expression of Nrf2 protein was in the cytoplasm of germ cells in the control group and 30d-radiated group, but it was mainly in nucleus in the 12d-radiated group.
Conclusions The testis of male rats could be damaged by exposure to a 900 MHz radiation imitated by cellphone. The nuclear translocation of Nrf2 protein was observed in the 12d-radiated group but not in the 30d-radiated group. The testis of male rats could be damaged by an exposure to 900 MHz cellphone radiation, which probably be caused by impacting the nuclear translocation of Nrf2 protein.
